Site update

I’ve been writing about film music since 1996, starting with a website hosted by my university before moving to a few cheap, free ones before taking the plunge and paying for dedicated hosting in the early 21st century. When WordPress came along this was a godsend. But in 2025, it is obvious that the architecture hosting the site is hopelessly out of date and requires investment to improve, to allow me to continue spouting my unwelcome waffle onto the world. A particular problem is that the site has no security certificate – unusually, my host provider (Network Solutions – who at one time were the market leader but now lag hopelessly behind other, more modern providers) charges even to host a “free” certificate.

Not expecting it to lead to much, I started a GoFundMe earlier in August to raise money to upgrade the site infrastructure. I have been bowled over by the response, with so many people giving so generously, including both long-time readers and some composers. I cannot express my gratitude strongly enough – it has been humbling to see. I have now raised enough money to consider a number of upgrade options, and every penny raised will go towards funding Movie Wave for the foreseeable future. I will begin this process this summer. There is still time to donate, if you are able and willing to do so. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has.
